Christmas Tradition Concessions

I'm a sucker for tradition. I wore my mother's wedding dress and veil on my wedding day and repeated the same "traditional vows" my parents did to my husband. For every family and close friends' birthdays, we call and sing "Happy birthday" to them over the phone, even...

Another Therapist Charmed

Today was Samuel's first appointment at the Kennedy Krieger Autism Institute in Baltimore with a behavioral psychologist. It went very well! Since it was the initial evaluation, most of it involved her asking me questions and me trying to explain to the best of my...

Android to the Rescue!

Oh man, I am SO excited! For a while now I've been searching for a tablet for Samuel to use for therapy purposes. We went to Best Buy the other night and checked out what they had, and of course they tried to sell us the iPad 2. With the cheapest available including...

GGEAP DAYS

I love GGEAP days. They make me smile. Big time.Ever since last year when Samuel was in kindergarten, he began to get creative with his answer to the age-old parental question, "How was school today?" At first it was, "Good." He never could really tell me why it was...

My Favorite Kind of Autism

Parents all over the world from every generation have shared in the high privilege of sharing in one particular delight with their children. In the beginning, an infant may first show affection and acknowlegment of a familiar face or voice by locking eyes and grinning...

Another Door Closed

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" You may recognize these words from the unofficial creed of the postal service. Yet when contemplating the struggles we face as autism...

Discover GOALLY

Goally is an incredible time, task, and behavioral management aide designed specifically for individuals with autism under the control of a parent with the parent app. Kids manage their own tasks and routines (set up within the parent app,) building independence, creating good habits, and it enables parents and therapists alike to track behavior, both "desireable" and "undesireable", and allow kids/Goally users to redeem points for rewards. There is even a FB support group for parents with access to help as needed. Some insurance waivers will even cover the cost of Goally as an assistive device.
