"Do You Have a Flag?"

If you have ever seen comedian Eddie Izzard's show, "Dressed to Kill", he has this bit about history where he discusses how countries came to be. This is a quote from the transcript. As you read, you have to imagine this guy (yes, it's a dude in make up and women's...

Long Awaited Hope

When Samuel was first diagnosed and I immersed myself in autism research, I came across a particular aid for kids with autism - autism assistance dogs. I'd heard of seeing eye dogs and guide dogs, but this was a first. Excited that there was something that seemed to...

Fascinating Fascinations

Autism is fascinating. Kids with autism often show inappropriate play with toys and obsessions with certain things. For the last few years, Sam's obsession has been cars. That is, Disney's Pixar Cars. He didn't zoom them about, or drive them around. He lined them up...

Mama Said There’d Be Days Like This

I began the day with resolve. I end the day with the same resolve, just a bit weary from being tested and tried. Earlier, I wrote, "Sam's constant demands for attention, and tantrums and meltdowns and rigidity are in for a rude awakening, which means we are too." I...

Busy Bees

2012 has started off with a bang. Not exactly lots of excitement and fun and awesomeness, but more like the "BANG" you hear just before you take off running in the race of life. There have been some exciting developments in our lives, and fun and awesomeness, amidst...

I'm Right and Seeing is Believing

Finding Another New Normal

The holidays are over. Christmas came and went in the blink of an eye, and its remnants remain in all the decorations I have yet to take down and store, and a small mess of toys kept under the tree. The kids are back in school and we're slowly getting back into...

Autism Advisory System

Please be advised: Today is going to be a red-alert day. This means there is a severe risk for autism to take over more of your child in ways that are going to frustrate you, anger you, hurt you and threaten every comfort and expectation you desired for yourself and...

Discover GOALLY

Goally is an incredible time, task, and behavioral management aide designed specifically for individuals with autism under the control of a parent with the parent app. Kids manage their own tasks and routines (set up within the parent app,) building independence, creating good habits, and it enables parents and therapists alike to track behavior, both "desireable" and "undesireable", and allow kids/Goally users to redeem points for rewards. There is even a FB support group for parents with access to help as needed. Some insurance waivers will even cover the cost of Goally as an assistive device.
